It has been said that when one works with their mind they need to rest with their hands. Markus Metal Works was born from this idea.

We are a small metal fabrication company located in the PNW. Specializing in custom furniture, and the occasional installation art piece our focus is creating quality pieces that are beautiful in their simplicity, functional, and built to last a lifetime.

Troy Markus is the creator behind Markus Metal Works. As a young man he followed in the footstep of his great-grandfather, taking a job at the local coal mine becoming what the Navy would call a Powdermonkey. With the smell of earth, rock, and explosives permeating his early years he forged into his adult life learning the value of hard work and collaboration.

At the age of 25 Troy traded his coal dusted work clothes for clean white collars and libraries filled with the smell of old books. Through his 30’s, 40’s and 50’s he embarked on a journey that led him to become an emergency department doctor. Focusing on the complicated workings of the human body he set bones, repaired wounds and taught others how to return health to the bodies of those who tested their limits.

Was it a need to scratch the creative itch or a coping mechanism for dealing with the stresses of a busy ER? Likely it was a combination of these forces that led to an artistic welding class and a simple garden gate. Hours of welding, cutting and grinding have finally produced several projects and our current Columnar Series of tables. So begins the next chapter and the birth of Markus Metal Works.
